The New Deal

The new deal was an act made to help the economy of the US during the thirties. Although it was made with the people in the thirties in mind, it still helps people today. One example could be the relief for the needy act.

The Relief for the Needy helps individuals who can not provide food for them or their families. One way that they were able to help was to build soup kitchens. They began to pop up everywhere. Although there was already soup kitchens, there were not as many, and they were run by churches and private charities. In the mid-thirties is when the government started to take part. Soup kitchens still help hundreds today.

Another act that was in the Relief for the needy was the Works Progress Administration. It created more than eight million jobs. They built over one hundred and twenty thousand public buildings and half a million miles of road. They even painted murals on buildings that can still be seen today.

The Social Safety law helps in need elderly people by giving them a small amount of money every month. This also helps the handicapped and dependent children get aid. Along with all of that, states received money to help the momentarily unemployed.

Overall these acts are far from perfect and have been changed many times over the years, but it still helps hundreds of people in need get the food, money, and jobs they need to live.
